Frankly speaking, for the last few decades, this is the first time that I am visiting the Istana.  It is quite a embarrassment for local that takes so long to visit the Istana
So bascially what is Istana? The Istana is the official residence of the President where he receives and entertains state guests. The entire domain occupies over 100 acres and is located along the busy Orchard Road.

The Istana building was completed in 1869 and was known as Government House until Singapore attained internal self-government in 1959... to know more, you can actually visit this website http://www.istana.gov.sg/index.htm
The Istana grounds are open to the public annually in celebration of the following occasions:Chinese New Year, Deepavali, Hari Raya Puasa, Labour Day, National Day
Admission to the Istana grounds is free for Singaporeans and Singapore Permanent Residents. Others, including foreign visitors, are required to pay an entrance fee of $1 per person. Entrance to the grounds is via the main gate at Orchard Road. Opening hours are usually from 8.30 am to 6.00 pm.
When we reach there around, 8.30 am, you can see the security is very tight. You will need to present your ID or passport to show the security.. at the same time you will need to walk through a metal detector and X-ray scanning on all your belongings...

After all the security check, you will get to relax and start your slow stroll to The Istana...
While strolling along the long windy road, you will get to see different kind of trees and plants, more like a botanical gardens, with all the shady leaves, it does provide some cooling effects, and at the same time, it really make your strolling pleasant too

You will also get to see a vast pasture of greenery which fits to be a golf course, you can also see that it is greenery all over the place...

we are now reaching the 2nd gate, they have 2 entrance to The Istana.  The left entrance will lead you to the Fountain and The Istana, while the right entrance will lead you to not only the Fountain and The Istana, it will lead you to the Victoria Pond too...while you are at the 2nd gate,,, please take a few moment to enjoy the details of the gates... it really give you a grand and powerful feel..

If you are taking the right entry, you will get to see this well kept Colonial structure... with its nice garden in front of the "house", it really gives you a Colonial feel too... you will also get to see the old canon parking there... so dont remember to take some pictures with your family there too :)

While strolling along the long road, you will get to see more greeneries...  you will also get to see some old design lamp post that you dont see it in Singapore...

Now, reaching Victoria Pond, we have to walk down this long stretch of staircase... at the final point, we were stop by security officer... but we can take pictures from a very far distance... so remember to bring you digital camera with power zoom lens....
