YanQing Secret - SG, 21st Dec 2008

文章日期:12/22/2008 08:54 am
My MIL and SIL has touched down Singapore last evening (saturday).. and coincidentally it is a 冬至 on Sunday... HKers will usually celebrate this speical day, as it is a some sort of family gathering .. to make it memorable for them, we have book this Yanqing's Secret which is open by Miss Yan Qing (used to be news anchor for the Mediacorp and U channel).. a modernised Shanghainese eat out.. which i think they will like it...

Interior decor has a combination of old and new, a little dark but cosy....

they even have 2 private rooms if you have around 10 people...

table setting are a little normal, but that is not the main point... the services provided are quite ok, but i think they are a little understaff that day.. the waiter are polite in everything they do, they will keep on asking "do u want some more soup", they will fill up your cup when they see it is half full..

Menu is fill with colourful dishes, and it is really what you see is what you get...

some tit bits for you while you are browsing the menu and while waiting for the food too

We didnt really order much food as it is only 4 of us, so this is what we have ordered
we ordered a Yellow fish soup pot, this is one of our favourites as the soup is rich with unexplainable flavour.. guess what, each one of us has consume a total of 4 small bowl,, this shows that this soup pot is a must try stuff

you can really tell the soup base is really a masterpiece, no cream added, tasty as it has been boiled for several hours, not too salty,

Stir fried venison with fungi is also our favourite, meat is tender, juicy. Fungi are soft and crunchy...
as for the gravy sauce, it goes well with rice.. good choice

Spinach with stir fried with chicken stock is alsy my wife favourites as she can really tell the gravy base are not using the canned chicken soup... Spinach are fresh and crunchy... and vege is also good for your digestive system too...

as for Wasabi Mayo Prawn Ball with avocado cubes, this is not our best favourite.. mayo are too much, and the wasabi doesnt blend well with the dish too.. this is not really a shanghainese delicacy.. it is more of a western fusion... but if really want to try something new... you would like to try this

Spicy Garlic pork ribs -please dont try... u will regret

We have not been patronising Tampopo for quite some time.. We suddenly have this urge of going to them again, and knowing that they have recently move to a bigger unit, and meantime, we are curious how Liang Court has fair so far..
WOW!!! When we reached there, the entrance are really big and grand, by looking at this, you can tell that they are looking better then their last premises, big, bright and colourful

they even have more "fake" food display to tempt you to eat in their restaurant too

When we were ushered into the conveyor section, we are just like a "mountain goat" as though everything are so "high tech".. you can even order from the touch screen., and the food will automatically come to you by conveyor belt and will deliver to you where you sit.. cool...

When you have finish your order.. you will be informed by the following lighting... this is really something that you will not be seeing in all the Jap restaurant in singapore

they have this nice bamboo stock hanging up as a ceiling light..

neat and tidy table setting

old coloured menu

new coloured menu - more sets, more sushi and more bentos....

As usual my wife has ordered a Yasai Ramen, but this time, it tasted better then the last visit, the aroma is stronger and the taste of the soup is so rich until you really want to drink up the whole soup..

as for me, I ordered Kaisen Box, it consists of the a few different don as seen below.. wait till u see the close up

the fish roe is tasty, not too salty, and with it fat rinsing in your mouth, it really makes you feel like you would like to have more

Salmon sashimi rice set, with this don you wont have to worry you are not having enough omega 3 :) it is fresh, tender,,, just great

the next will be the cold soba, not only it is cold, when u start slurping and toegether with wasabi... it tickles your mind too... it is a good set when the weather is hot,,,remember to try some

Agedashi Tofu is still the best in Tampopo, it is still hot after we have finished our meal, the outer layer is still crispy, the tofu is still soft and tasty.. Ichiban need to learn from them too

Ever since our last patronise (1 year ago) in Vanilla Pod located inside the Mandai Orchid garden, we really miss that delicious signature dish the Bangkok Gold Ocean Crawlers and The Anne Black Crabmeat Salad which has orchids as the ingredient..
And we thought of going back there again to celebrate our 4th wedding anniversary....
here is the entrance of the Manda garden, you can always request to sit under the hut for that romantic ambience.

if you want to have a really cooler environment to eat in, you can walk down this path to their air-conditoner room

decoration not a really "pow-wow".. but decent enought to have a small candle light dinner :)

when we are about to order our favourite,,, we were stunned by the reply from the waiter...
"sir, today we only have this and we only have that and we run out of stock for our signature dish" -- OMG.. well since we are here, and we are really disappointed with that reply, and at the same time do not want to go back empty stomach, we decided to order a-la-carte

For me, I ordered a C.L.B S.Blanc house Wine

Chunky Mushroom Soup for two, to be frank, this is the best mushroom soup I have tasted.. the chunky mushroom are really chunky

you see what i mean,, chunky meat...

they run of of Caesar Salad, so here is the Chef's Salad, nothing fantastic... but it is brand new dish that we have tried so far

Aglio Olio Mushroom Spaghetti is what i ordered, they run out of prawn that nite (jeeez, it almost spoilt my mood), so the mushrooms are here to stay.. but it doesnt taste that bad after all...

Scallop Pasta with Lobster cream sauce is for my wife.. this another one good dish that you must try... the lobster sauce really cream up your mouth, and with the lobster taste.. it really want you to eat more...

now.. wait till u see this scallop.. this is so far my biggest, my thickest scallop that i have ever eat..

they are tasty, fresh and YUMMY!!!!

Creme Brulee, it is some kind of egg pudding with a layer of caramelise skin ... actually, i dont like this...
